We Got Engaged!...... And More Excitement From 2013

This is going to be the update post that I've been promising for a while.
Trust me when I say that 2013 has been the biggest, the best and the busiest year of our lives!

So many things have happened this year, in fact, after our Thailand trip I feel like life was on fast forward, double speed.

Here are all the things that happened (in no particular order):

- We got engaged! Chris and I have been together nearly 4.5 years now and it was so special to get engaged not long after our 4th anniversary. Here's the sparkler:

The proposal was so sweet and the ring is amazzzzing!! Everything I could ever have hoped for. I have the sweetest fiancé on the planet.

- We celebrated our engagement last month with a perfect garden party here in our home town. I still haven't come down from the excitement of getting engaged and part of the reason, I think, is because we waited three months for our party. We enjoyed it so much. I planned and styled everything myself and we had the good fortune of having help from our family and friends with food etc.

- We took our first overseas trip together to Thailand over our June/July Uni break.

Bukit Safari - Baby Elephants, Phuket, Thailand

Big Buddha - Top of Phuket Island, Thailand

Maya Bay - Phi Phi Island, Thailand

- We holidayed in Taupo (New Zealand) in February. Our stay at the Hilton was the highlight of our trip. Such a beautiful place.

Aratiatia Dam - Taupo, New Zealand

Our private courtyard - Hilton Hotel, Taupo, New Zealand

Chateau Tongariro - National Park, New Zealand

Mount Ruapehu - National Park, New Zealand

- I flew to Sydney (Australia) for a girls trip. I hadn't seen my bestie in a while so it was good to catch up with her.

Bondi Beach - Sydney, Australia

Sydney Opera House - Sydney, Australia

Mid-Sentence! In front of Harbour Bridge - Sydney, Australia

In front of Opera House - Sydney, Australia

With my best friend Hannah

- I went to Auckland to go to the Rihanna concert

Skytower - Auckland, New Zealand

- I felt like I made 20,473 gingerbread houses!

- I finished my first year of a Communication degree at Massey University

- Chris finished his degree!! Yay!!

- We moved back to our hometown. Such a stressful ordeal

- Chris started Competitive Muay Thai Kickboxing. So far he has an undefeated record :)

- We had a minor car accident and wrote off one of our vehicles :(

We are going overseas in January and have started planning our wedding. Such exciting times!

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a few beauty events, more on that later :)

Here's to 2014 being equally as awesome!

What did you get up to?

Review: Sebastian Professional Shine Define

Shine Define Hairspray 200ml* - $35

Allow me to introduce you to my new favourite hairspray.

Sebastian Professional Shine Define.

This hairspray is not like your average, gigantic-can counterpart. It's a shine-boosting pocket rocket with enough hold to give a suitable amount of texture and structure, without the 'crispyness' you can get from other sprays.

The problem with some hair spray is the matte look that they can give. If you're a brunette like me, shine is the ultimate goal when styling your hair so this product ticks all the boxes, shine and definition - hence the name.

This rather average iPhone pic shows an unfiltered look at the product in action. Shiny hair with textured, loose waves. I curled my hair and then spot-sprayed the product on to hold the curl, then I gently ran my fingers through my hair to loosen them up. A quick, easy go to look of mine.

The presentation of the product is different to what I'm normally used to. When I think hairspray, I think, ginormous can and aerosol. This is more of a liquid in a smaller can with a fine spray application.

It works.

That's all there is to say. It smells good, holds well, and gives shine. A holy grail product!

Shine Define is a salon-only product, that is sold where Sebastian Professional is stocked.

For all you Carrie Diaries fans out there, you better believe I think of Sebastian Kidd everytime I use it.

I have so much to update you on...
A picture heavy update post is on it's way soon!

Review: NIVEA In Shower Body Lotion

NIVEA In Shower Body Lotion 400ml*

I'm so excited to share a REVOLUTIONARY new product with you today.

Last month, NIVEA launched it's brand new In-Shower Body Lotion and since then I've been trialing it for review purposes for you.

This product takes all the hassle of body moisturising out of your routine. You simply wash your body as normal in the shower, then apply it afterwards (to damp skin) and then rinse off. So simple.

It's important to note that this product does not replace your usual shower gel, it is not a body wash, it's a body moisturiser. Just like you cleanse first and then moisturise your face, it's the same with your body.

I really was skeptical at first. I couldn't get my head around the fact that it was going to moisturise me, but then I was rinsing it off. However, the formula is actually absorbed when your skin is damp.

I was impressed that my skin felt moisturised after I washed it off and then further surprised that it still felt soft and hydrated after I vigorously rubbed myself with a towel dried myself!

The beauty is that it is so quick! You know what normal moisturising is like, especially if you use a thicker product like me... It takes forever. I don't even know a single person who can successfully moisturise their own back, but you can with this product. Because everything is slippery and you don't need to rub it in very much, you can do your whole body in about 30 seconds. About eight times faster than doing it when you're dry - trust me.

I used the formula for normal skin, but next time I might try the one for dry skin seeing as I normally like to use something thick. This one was perfectly hydrating enough though, and I liked how I could just get dressed as soon as I was dry, no waiting around for sticky formulas.

All of my friends that I've converted to this new way of moisturising have reported back that they love it too. At only about $9.50 for a whopping 400ml, it is definitely value for money.

Will you be trying it?

P.S I'm in the process of writing a big update post, so many things have happened since I last blogged, including something very exciting!!

Pacific Perfumes Review

 Pacific Goddess Solid Perfume 10g* - $28
Tui Loves Kowhai Solid Perfume Sample*
Love the Mango Solid Perfume Sample*
Simply Paradise Solid Perfume Sample*
Love Asteroid Perfume Oil Sample*

I'm coming at you with a different sort of review today. I don't often review 'perfumes' because I feel like I'm absolutely rubbish at describing scents. These are much too special to not share with you and I can guarantee that you've never experienced something like these in your life!

There are many reasons why I was intrigued by these Pacific Perfumes so I'll just go ahead and list them for you.

- Essential oils in a solid cream as opposed to alcohol based 'commercial' types
- Wonderful founding story that traces back to Santorini, Greece
- Eco-friendly packaging
- Great for travel
- Fantastic product selection
- New Zealand made
- Cruelty-free and no animal products (except beeswax)
- Last but not least, beautiful, very 'wearable' scents

Beech pots were crafted from sustainable New Zealand forests. A 'snap-to' closure ensures that the product remains sealed and secure so it can be thrown into your handbag without a worry. Because the product is a cream, you don't run into any leakage problems. These two features were the reason that I happily took my Pacific Goddess perfume to Thailand with me.

The scent intensifies when it's warmed into the skin and I found that Pacific Goddess was the perfect choice for balmy days on holiday. I felt like I'd taken a little piece of New Zealand with me and a bonus was that it was smaller than any other fragrance I would otherwise have packed. It was important to me to factor in space-saving products when packing. Also the lack of alcohol means that it's safer on the skin and gentler in the sun than a traditional alcohol-based perfume. A fantastic product to take on holiday, I think you'll agree.

"Inspired by the mysticism of the female deities in the Pacific, Pacific Goddess is strong, creative and nurturing. Dramatic Alahehe, Goddess of Love; Hina, Goddess of the Moon, Patroness of Travellers; and Papatuanuku, the Earth Mother of all. Born of volcanic mythical legends, this wonderful blend is our most popular solid perfume fragrance. Test the waters! Its both soft and intensely rich, full of spicy yet delicate vanilla extracts."

Sweet Spicy - Soft Floral - Oriental

A sample set of solid perfumes is available to purchase also. For $33 you receive all 3 of the Artisan Range and 5 sample sized products from the Original collection. We aren't talking a one use type sample either, they are very generous sizes. I'd say it's perfect as a gift for a perfume lover, who can sample many scents. Or for yourself if you are trying to decide which scent you like best for later purchase.

I usually save this perfume for night wear. Simply Paradise is from the Artisan Range and is a richer, sweeter, gourmand fragrance. The Amber Resin takes centre stage and at first whiff, you can appreciate the care behind the Artisan Range and separate it from the Original.

"Inspired by the very essence of summer, mellow and addictive as sunshine, fresh yet sweet like the Cocoa it languishes in. Heavenly aromas of Amber, Ylang Ylang, essence of Guaiacwood and rich, subtle Sweet Orange harmonise in delicate leathery & fruity undertones. The celebration continues with mythical Frankincense Absolute and Peru Balsam, caressed by a just a hint of Vanilla."

Sweet - Gourmand - Floral - Soft Fruity

Totally different to Simply Paradise, Love the Mango hits you with a mouth-watering citrus and mango combo. Mango is one of my favourite fruits and I could eat it all day long, the yellow flesh and sweet smell just come back to me when I smell this. It's like a burst of sunlight right in front of me. The ultimate fruity cocktail.

"Top notes of Lime and Black Pepper Essential Oils are a subtle introduction to the first notes of the Queen of Fruits. Then richness and colour burst forth and the Mango heart emerges: sweet, luscious and juicy. So... Love. So... Mango."

Fresh - Fruity - Sweet - Gourmand

Tui Loves Kowhai is a tale of romance. Jasmine is sweet and alluring and reminds me of that first date - full of promise. A real Kiwi love story between the Kowhai tree and the native Tui bird.

"Its all about love and intensity. Inspired by the relationship between the feisty bird called Tui from Aotearoa, and the fleetingly flowering Kowhai tree. Vibrantly deep yellow flowers bursting forth to meet the feathered friend, the fragrant gathering before the blooms fade - a singing celebration of harvest. Our tribute to this is a Jasmine/Honeysuckle rich and alluring heart note and a woody hint of a Vetiver finish."

Floral - Rich - Sweet Woody - Honey

Love Asteroid is a perfume oil concentrated in florals. A delightful bouquet of white florals, best after a few moments once it's warmed by your skin. Each flower blossoms on its own and transforms. Each time I smell it, it's like a whole new scent. Love that!

"In pure and simple terms, Love Asteroid is a botanical elixir of magnificent white florals. Rose Damascus, Tuberose, White Champaca, Magnolia and a finishing note of Cardamom. Designed with the planetary influences in mind this perfume oil is romantic, velvety warm, rich and sensuous to the core."

Heavy Rich Floral - Dry Spice - Soft Green

So there you have it. A total sensory experience by Pacific Perfumes. My office smells beautiful now because I've just opened them all to relive the romance that is fragrance all over again.

I definitely believe in the power of smell and memory. What your Mum wore when you were little. What you were allowed to spray while playing at Nana's house. What your teacher wore when you were 6 years old. What the honeysuckle smelled like in the field behind school. A scarf you haven't worn in a while with your scent lingering on it. And my favourite, when your boyfriend remembers you've been in his car because your perfume is on the seatbelt. I love it all.

Throwback Thursday: The Spice Girls

After seeing this post on Into The Gloss, my heart ached for a little bit of the 90's.
It was the best surprise when I'd come home from school to find my mum had bought me the latest Spice Girl's album. I'd play it 24/7, learning all the words (thank goodness I didn't know what '2 become 1' was about back then!!).

Of course I was Posh Spice. Never as skinny, but my tanned skin and dark hair in a bob ensured I was the best candidate at school. Soon everyone just called me Posh. I had her little hand gestures down pat and even forced myself to prefer Lemon Chupa Chups. They were the classiest option after all, dahling!

Remember those Spice Girl Dolls? Don't even get me started on the fact that someone bought me Sporty Spice, complete with arm-band tattoo. Mum rectified it by buying me Posh.

The Spice World movie was on repeat everyday. This dress is dry clean only!
I think my Posh obsession started my serious love for makeup. Her smouldering eyes were my go-to look for every school disco, not to mention my Warehouse version of her 'little Gucci dress'.

Such a classic beauty then and now. Just forget those years in the middle!

Which Spice Girl were you?

Birthday Wishlist #2

If you've been reading my blog for a while, then you'll remember the Birthday Wishlist post I did last year. It was fabulous because I ended up getting most things on my list, even if I bought them myself with vouchers. Let's be honest, that million dollar infrared sauna was never going to find its way into my home ;)

Here's my 2013 edit.

I wanted this charm for my birthday, but I just got it from Chris for our anniversary! Love x

I'm so excited about this product. You mean I can moisturise my body... in the warm shower? I need this in my life! It's not available until September 9th, but a girl can dream right?

My nails need some serious attention, in particular my cuticles. I've heard this product is not only cute looking, but hard working at nourishing nails.

I need a good mascara back in my life. I've gone through several tubes of this in the past and loved it.

I'm on the hunt for a gorgeous cake stand. White ceramic is my weak spot and this stand is to-die-for.

A whole lotttttaaa chocolate. This many please and thank you.

I'm quite keen on trying this product, I've got the Dr. LeWinn's Revitanail but I've heard good things about this.

There are many other things on my radar at the moment but I won't post them all here!
What are you lusting over at the moment?
