Review: Linden Leaves Rejuvenating Dermabrasion

Linden Leaves Rejuvenating Dermabrasion* 55ml - $54.99

I'm an exfoliation junkie. Not in the sense that I do it every day; I limit use to once per week. But, when I use one, I LOVE it. I love how smooth my face feels afterwards, and I just love that I'm optimising the performance of all my other skincare.

I've been using this Linden Leaves Rejuvenating Dermabrasion for a while now, and I've found it to be such a great alternative to manual exfoliators. This product is granule free, instead it contains glycolic acid derived from sugar cane. It's what you would call a 'chemical' exfoliation, although the 'chemical' is fruit AHAs and is perfectly safe. The AHAs will break down the bonds holding the dead, dull skin cells to the healthy ones so that when you rinse off, you are left with smooth, glowing skin. Your serums and moisturisers will be better able to soak into the skin after use. It's great if you don't always want a manual exfoliation like my day-to-day gentle cleanser is, I use this one every couple of weeks to avoid overuse.

I apply a thin layer all over my face (avoiding eyes) and leave it on for 2-5 mins. Remember it's not a mask, so you wouldn't really want to leave it on for longer than 5 mins. You may experience a mild tingle while the dermabrasion is on, this is perfectly normal. If you feel that the tingle is uncomfortable, then you can wash it off after 2 mins with warm water (lots of water). It's quite an unnoticeable tingle on me though.

It contains a whole host of ingredients to rejuvenate your skin at the same time as exfoliating too. Organic white tea extract for antioxidant and regenerative purposes. Tangerine to help brighten and decongest the skin. Lemon balm to nourish and revive. Sweet almond oil to nourish. They've thought of everything.

One thing to note with this product (and any AHA product), is that it's important to wear sunscreen/limit sun exposure. The Glycolic acid exfoliation can make the skin sensitive to the sun so that's one thing to watch out for. I've had no issues or sensitivities to this product. Only smooth, glowing skin!

I've used a few products from the Linden Leaves range and have been impressed with them all. Expect to see a bit more from them yet, I'm addicted to their flaxseed body polish!

All Linden Leaves products are available from their website.

Review: Colgate Optic White

Colgate Optic White* 110g - $8.99

I was thrilled to discover that Colgate would be launching their Optic White toothpaste on NZ shores, as I’d been sourcing mine from the US for around a year. What sets this toothpaste apart from the rest is that it actually works. I personally noticed a difference in the whiteness of my teeth after the first couple of days. On the third day, at lunch with my mum, she remarked how white my teeth were looking. Three days people!

Colgate Optic White contains the same whitening ingredient that dentists use, Hydrogen Peroxide, so you’d expect to pay a bit right? Wrong. It retails for around $9 for a decent sized tube and is available in supermarkets nationwide. On the box, it says that you can expect to whiten your teeth by 3 shades after 4 weeks of use. I think you’ll achieve results faster than that, but it depends on your teeth.

I welcomed the change in taste of this toothpaste too; it’s a little more ‘fresh American’ than the regular NZ offerings. The taste (along with great results) is one of the reasons that I kept purchasing it.

Just in case you were worried about passing up your regular oral care paste, Optic White fights cavities, freshens breath and helps reduce plaque. It’s also much more effective at whitening than other toothpastes that ‘whiten’ by just removing external stains through the use of abrasives. Optic White whitens the intrinsic tooth stains too, for a much brighter appearance.

Give it a go, next time you’re at the supermarket, switch out your regular toothpaste for Colgate Optic White. You won’t be disappointed.

Beauty By Lizy Featured On Clarins' Beauty Flash Blog

A couple of my Instagram pictures were featured in the weekly #showusyourclarins segment of the Beauty Flash Blog. I absolutely love the name Beauty Flash Blog, obviously a nod to Clarins' most iconic product, the Beauty Flash Balm. The theme turned out to be Lip Gloss Cult, and as you can see, I have a lot of those. Thanks BFB for featuring my pictures.

The Instant Light Lip Perfectors are my obsession. I have every shade (and multiples) and I couldn't go a day without them.

I'm also a big fan of the Colour Quench Lip Glosses too. Gorgeous shades, moisturising and not sticky. Clarins do glosses well.

If you don't follow me on Instagram yet, you should!

Dr. Hauschka Dear Eyes... Collection Review

Eyeshadow Trio $69*
Kajal Eyeliner - Black $41*
Volume Mascara - Black $49*
Blender Brush $49*
Definer Brush $49*
Dear Eyes …
… You reflect the light of nature, allowing each individual
to shine in their own unique way.
You allow us to see the beauty of this world.
You love contrast. A little light, a little dark.

The latest limited edition makeup collection from Dr. Hauschka, Dear Eyes..., is concise but beautifully thought out. The packaging alone is stunning, rose gold is the metal du jour and each item sparkles majestically on my vanity table. However, it's the products themselves that really shine.
The eyeshadow palette contains three very wearable and coordinating shades. There's nothing worse than a palette that looks good but doesn't work in the 'real world'. I watched the Youtube video where Karim Sattar, Dr. Hauschka's international makeup artist, demonstrates the suggested application of the collection for day and night. It's so easy to follow and the finished result looks natural yet defined, with a subtle glow. I reach for this palette every morning because it looks great on, has fantastic pigmentation, is easy to apply and is made entirely of natural ingredients (including fine silk powder, anthyllis, witch hazel and black tea). I love that you can blend the cream and the rose shades together for a light, glowy blush also.

I can't get over the formula of this new Kajal Eyeliner in the shade Black. It contains botanical waxes and oils but the addition of marula oil means that it is softer than previous versions of Dr. Hauschka eyeliners. It smooths over the eyelid without pulling or tugging, which is better for the delicate eye area. The smudger on the other end is perfect to achieve a smokey look, just apply and blend out. I apply it everyday to my upper lash line and it stays where I want it all day.

I've never tried an all-natural mascara before and didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised! I wondered if the Volume Mascara would have the staying power that some of my other mascaras have, and I found that it definitely does, with the added bonus of being easier to remove at night. The new brush volumised and lengthened my lashes and coated them with some lovely ingredients like beeswax, candelilla wax, rose wax, silk and black tea. If you're particularly sensitive around the eye area, I'd give this mascara a try.

I love this entire collection, but I very nearly want to say that these brushes are my favourite part. If you're after a set of outstanding quality eye brushes, then pick these up. You won't regret it. Great brushes are the key to a brilliant makeup look and these are top of the line. So soft, but dense enough to pick up colour and blend well. I'm positive that these will last me an age because of the quality and the fact that I'm going to look after them well. They are the perfect size to fit over the lid or in the crease too.

It's important to look after the eye area as it's the most delicate part of your face so it makes me happy to know that beautiful, high-performing natural makeup products do exist. Who wouldn't want to look like this?!

If you'd like to know more, or are keen to purchase, you can do so from this website.
If you love the sound of Dr. Hauschka and it's natural philosophy then visit this Facebook page, you won't be disappointed. I find something on there to inspire me daily!

How I Plan To Get Rid Of My 'Mike Tyson Tattoo'!

I've got this area on my face.
I call it my Mike Tyson Tattoo, to make fun of it.
There are a few freckles that go around my left eye and I don't like them.
Not to mention other freckles and pigmentation spots around my face.
So I'm going to do something about them....

Enter Shiseido's White Lucent Power Brightening Mask.
I read somewhere that it 'crushes' and 'ejects' pigmentation.
Sign me up!

I've taken some 'before' shots of my skin, and all will be revealed after I use these sheet masks for 6 weeks, I'm guessing.

Wave bye to this!

Bye Mike!

Beauty Products You Need To Survive Winter #1

For those of us who live south of the Equator, winter is coming and it's getting really cold.
Recently, I discovered that I was using a lot of 'winter friendly' products in place of a few of my usual products. Slightly richer formulas and deeper hues are what's needed to cope with the season.
These are my initial picks for products you might definitely need to get through winter.

A hard-working hand cream is an absolute must over the winter season. I love this Savar Advanced Hand Repair for its ingredients, its ability to nourish my dry cuticles and because it keeps my hands soft and smooth for hours after application. It's got an abundance of natural moisturisers in it like avocado, sweet almond and apricot kernal oils, as well as shea butter. Perfect to apply after your hands have been exposed to the elements, this hand cream is non-greasy and neutral smelling so it's not just for the ladies!

Speaking of the elements, your lips are no doubt one of the places that begin to show signs of dryness first. Applying a rich balm like this Nivea Lip Butter a few times a day should help. These Nivea Lip Butters are just new out but are selling like crazy, I picked mine up at my local supermarket.

Another way to relieve lip dryness is by using a moisturising lipstick such as this one by Dr. Hauschka. The all-natural lipstick not only hydrates but it smooths your lips too. Rose, anthyllis, rosewax, beeswax, jojoba and almond oil are a few of the ingredients this lipstick contains. It's free from mineral oils, parabens, synthetics etc and is organically registered. Would you treat your lips to any less? This Pink Topaz shade is perfect to lift my spirits if the weather is particularly dreary, not to mention the satisfaction I get from applying from the brushed gold tube.

After getting your hands in top shape after using a great hand cream, you'll want to show them off. What better way than by applying a dramatic, dark shade of polish such as one of these O.P.I's. Eiffel For This Colour is from the French Collection (you may find one floating around somewhere) and is my shade of choice. It's a vampy purple and looks great on shorter nails and complements a winter wardrobe. My Private Jet is another great winter shade, dark and reminiscent of the Milky Way with its glittery/shimmery particles. I heard it was Kim Kardashian's favourite colour, so if it's good enough for her....

A fabulously scented candle is, in my opinion, a non-negotiable winter staple. There's nothing better than snuggling under the covers when it's cold and raining outside, with a beautiful fragrant candle flickering away next to you. I've found the perfect one in Nellie Tier's Neroli and Cinnamon Bark Candle. The hand-poured, soya bean wax candle has been perfumed with essential oils and is the most warming scent for winter. I'm a cinnamon girl, and this candle delivers in a way that's not too overpowering. Neroli has always been one of my favourite essential oils and when added to the cinnamon bark, the pair combine to make the best candle I've smelled in long time. There's something to be said for a luxury candle that can evoke strong feelings in the smeller, and this candle does that. I imagine it's like being in the Sex and the City movie where they go to Abu Dhabi with all the spice souks and desert adventures. Where do I sign up for their wardrobe?

Richer formulas are required throughout winter, and that includes your hair regime too. Just switch out your conditioner once or twice a week for a nourishing hair mask like this L'Oreal Smoothing Deep Conditioner. It's sulfate-free and is great at taming frizzy or unruly hair. It makes the ends of my hair super soft and moisturised and fools me into thinking I don't need a haircut, ha!

Geoskincare are a great New Zealand company who make natural and organic products. This Hydrating Vitamin Masque is a great shot of nutrients for your skin, something you'll need over winter. I apply a thick-ish layer and leave for about 15-20 minutes before washing off. Jojoba, avocado, honey, shea butter, borage and vitamin e are just a few of the vitamins and minerals that you'll get out of this masque. You'll notice that your skin is smoother, softer and clearer.

Everyone loves the tried and true Palmers Cocoa Butter moisturiser, especially in the winter. That product is so thick you get a hand/arm workout just squeezing it out of the bottle. Don't think you can get away with slapping on a pair of jeans for 3 months and calling it a day. You'll thank me come September if you regularly apply moisturiser and maybe use that weird looking massager thing (especially on legs/thighs). It'll boost your circulation and 'push' the product into your skin. You'll have summer-ready legs in no time and everyone else will be wondering what you did differently!

So you'll notice that this is #1 in the winter survival series. I'm sure that I'll add more as the months grow colder/our gas bill increases to the point where wearing 5 jerseys is acceptable.

What do you love to use throughout winter? Have I overlooked anything major? Holla, so I can include it for next time!
